How to find youth sports sponsors, with 4 company request routes

Start with a need your team can explain and a benefit it can deliver. A local sponsor might pay for a sign at a home game. A company donation may provide goods. A grant follows its own rules and may offer no sponsor benefits at all.

This guide includes four checked company request routes, then steps for finding local businesses and tracking what you promise. Use the free sponsor request and benefit tracker before you submit. No email is needed.

Check who may apply

Find out which kind of group you are applying for. A school, a league and a single team may face different rules. Check where the group serves, its formal status and the due date. A well-known brand may not take requests from your team.

We checked these sources on September 11, 2026. They show ways to ask, not offers of funds. You may meet the rules and still get no support. Have your school or club choose the adult who may apply.

1. DICK’S Sporting Goods sponsorships and donations

This route serves youth sports leagues and groups in areas with a DICK’S store. Requests must be under $25,000. The sport must be on its list. Single youth teams or events may get gifts such as coupons or store gift cards.

Have these records ready:

  • Your EIN, the group’s tax ID number.
  • School or nonprofit records.
  • An item budget for gear, or quotes for services.

Read the full rules. Religious and political groups are excluded. Employees and their families may not apply.

The page lists monthly reviews and a usual answer within 60 days. Sponsor deals need a written agreement. The foundation’s grants are separate and by invitation only. Use the DICK’S rules and request form.

2. SCHEELS local requests

Choose one store near your group. Ask at least one month before you need the help. SCHEELS says it deletes requests to faraway stores and repeat requests sent to several stores.

The form asks who you are, what the event is and how you will use the help. It asks whether the group is a nonprofit. The page does not say all groups must be nonprofits. If approved, you need a W-9 form.

Use the SCHEELS request page to find your store. If it is not on the form’s list, contact that store as the page directs.

3. Academy Sports + Outdoors community requests

This route is for groups with registered 501(c)(3) status. Check the group’s records for that exact status. It includes eligible sports associations, leagues and school districts. It excludes single schools, travel teams and individual sports teams.

The group’s main mission must meet one or both of these tests:

  • Promote safety and responsibility in sports or the outdoors.
  • Support first-responder programs that help make communities safer.

The group must have no religious or political ties. The event must serve a store community in one of the states on Academy’s official list. Check both the state and the local store area; a store somewhere in your state is not enough.

Apply at least 90 days ahead. If all the rules fit, use the listed email: communityrelations@academy.com. Requests sent any other way are not considered.

4. Walmart Spark Good Local Grants

This is a cash grant. It is not a paid sign or sponsor package. Eligible groups include verified public charities, schools, government bodies and some faith-based projects. A team does not qualify just because it plays nearby.

Check these steps before you start:

  • Serve the area of the U.S. Walmart or Sam’s Club you ask.
  • Have an adult with permission to act for the group.
  • Set up a Spark Good account and verify the group through Deed.
  • For a school, check its NCES number or qualifying nonprofit status. NCES is a school ID used in this check.

If approved, follow Walmart’s rules for recognition and use of its logo. These are grant terms, not a paid ad deal.

The listed FY27 cycle 3 runs August 1 to November 30. Read the Spark Good grant rules. Start at the official application page. Check that the window is still open first.

One route where the dealer chooses

Chevy Youth Sports uses dealers in the program to select local leagues. Its league interest form keeps league details on file; it does not promise sponsorship. Check the dealer’s area and current plans. A clinic signup is not an application for team funds.

Find local businesses with a reason to care

Start near the places your program actually uses: the field, gym, rink or school. Ask adults for business names they know, then check each business’s public website for a request process. A parent may know whom to ask. That does not mean the business has funds to give.

Choose firms whose customers or staff have a real local link. Record the business, the reason it fits and the way they accept requests. Avoid sending the same request to every location in a chain when its rules call for one store.

Keep family or player details private. A sponsor can understand the program from its location, age groups and counts your group has cleared to share. You do not need to share a roster or private family need.

Build one clear sponsor offer

Name the cost and show how you priced it. A bus invoice, equipment quote or field bill is clearer than a general request to support the season. State who will receive the money and what happens if you raise more or less than needed.

Offer only things your group has the right to provide. Get written permission for school marks, signs, game announcements or newsletter space. Do not promise uniform logos, venue ads or access to families without approval.

Price the benefit before setting the request. In a made-up example, a $500 paid sponsorship minus $80 for an approved sign leaves $420 before other costs. Add fees, setup or other charges. That is budget math, not a suggested price for a sponsor deal.

Avoid audience promises you cannot show. If you have not counted attendance or views, leave those numbers out. Explain the placement and dates instead.

Make the request easy to review

Use the company’s chosen form or way to apply. For a local offer with no set process, prepare a short note with your program name, need, what you offer and the date. Attach only the documents the business needs.

Have the adult in charge check it before you send it. Keep a copy and record the expected reply date. If the rules say how long a review takes, wait that long before you ask again. Do not promise a fast decision to your board.

A donation request needs different wording from a sponsor offer. State the goods or service needed and intended use. A grant needs answers that fit its rules. Do not add ad promises unless the rules call for them.

Finish every promise

If the answer is yes, get the amount and pay date in writing. Confirm the art and each promised task too. Name an adult for each task. Plan what happens if weather cancels an event or the schedule changes.

Record when cash or goods arrive. Send a brief thank-you and proof of the agreed benefit. Report how the support was used. Before asking again next season, check that no promised task is still open.

Copy or print this tracker. Check fit before applying, and keep sponsor benefits separate from grant or donation rules.
