5 youth sports grant providers to check, with current status

Check the applicant rules before writing a grant request. Some programs support a whole school or nonprofit. Others cover one sport or one type of cost. Equipment support can help with a gear order, but it cannot pay an unrelated travel bill.

The five providers below include open routes and closed cycles worth planning for. Status was checked September 11, 2026. Recheck the linked official page before applying. Meeting the rules does not guarantee an award.

Use the free grant fit and budget tracker to check who can apply, what it costs and when it is due. No signup is needed.

These are organization routes. Do not use a team grant form as a personal request for one family’s fees. For business support with a different process, see the youth sports sponsorship guide.

1. Good Sports Core equipment support

Application available. Good Sports serves U.S. youth ages 3–18 in high-poverty areas. The program must offer regular physical activity. Fees to take part must be $299 or less. Schools must charge no tuition and have more than half of students eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. A school applies for the whole school, not one team. Good Sports application, School requirements

Support is equipment, footwear or apparel rather than cash. Plan for the standard shipping and handling fee of 5% of the donated equipment’s value. Accepted programs must report on each donation and sign a release. The gear you request may not be in stock. Good Sports FAQ

Not a fit: an individual family request or a program that does not meet the fee and access rules. List the equipment you need and the cash you can use for delivery before applying.

2. Walmart Spark Good Local Grants

FY27 cycle 3: August 1–November 30. This program lists cash grants from $250 to $5,000. The group must serve the area around the U.S. Walmart or Sam’s Club it asks for funds. The rules cover certain charities, schools, government bodies and community faith projects. An informal team may not qualify. Spark Good guidelines

A person allowed to act for the group needs a Spark Good account. Deed must verify the group. Schools need an NCES number, which identifies a school in federal education records, or the required nonprofit status. If approved, follow the grant’s rules for credit and logo use. Start through the official nonprofit application entry.

Not a fit: a group outside the store’s service area or one that cannot pass the required checks. Confirm the intended use against the guidelines; a grant is not a paid sponsor-sign package.

3. USA Lacrosse grant tracks

Advancement is rolling; PE and Access cycles are closed. Start with the basic rules: the program must serve U.S. youth ages 6–19 and run for at least six weeks. An adult tied to the program must apply, and the group needs an EIN tax ID. USA Lacrosse prefers 501(c)(3) status; do not read that preference as a rule that every group must have it.

Advancement offers money or sticks to help programs add and keep players. Member programs and some non-member programs can apply under the track’s rules. USA Lacrosse grants

Physical Education grants provide PE kits to schools and school-based partners. Access and Inclusion helps nonprofit programs reach underserved groups or build adaptive lacrosse. Check that track’s allowed uses for money and gear. Both cycles are closed. The page says they reopen in June 2027.

Not a fit: a program outside the age or six-week rules, or one seeking a closed track now. A PE-kit request will not cover every team bill. Check the track, member status, costs and delivery date before applying.

4. USA Football Flag Equipment Grant

2026 application closed. This route serves youth organizations, middle schools and high-school girls flag programs. It covers flag belts and footballs, not every type of football gear.

The group must enroll with USA Football for the current calendar year, which is free. It also needs nonprofit or tax-exempt status and must have no unpaid invoices with USA Football. Flag Equipment Grant

Not a fit: a request for travel cash or a group outside the listed types and account rules. Use the closed cycle to check your records and equipment list. Revisit the official page for the next announced window; do not assume next year’s dates or terms.

5. USA Swimming Youth Learn-to-Swim grants

2026 cycle closed March 3. This grant helps approved providers offer free or lower-cost youth swim lessons and related transport. It does not pay swim-team dues, buy gear or cover general running costs. 2026 Youth Learn-to-Swim application

Not a fit: a swim team seeking money for general bills or a lesson provider outside the approved network. Check provider status and the next official cycle before planning an application. Do not describe this closed form as open funding.

Count only support you can use

Here is made-up math. A project costs $2,000. The group has $500 set aside and a confirmed $700 cash award it may use for that project. That leaves $800 to fund. A pending $1,000 request does not reduce the gap. It must be approved and usable in time first.

Equipment needs a different check. If confirmed donated gear replaces an item you planned to buy, change that line in the budget. Do not subtract a retail value from money owed for rent, travel or staff. Add any shipping charge or other cost you must still pay.

Get the timing in writing too. An award paid after the project may not cover a deposit due now. Name the adult who will handle reports and keep receipts before accepting the award terms.

Make the request specific

Use a short explanation of who the program serves, what is missing and how the support will be used. Keep the quote and the record you used to count players with the request. Do not add claims about the community that you cannot show are true.

If one required condition does not fit, choose another route. Checking the fit early can save hours of work. For options beyond grants, use the sports fundraising guide.
